During the Lunar New Year, many people choose to travel abroad and bring back household pesticide products such as mosquito resin nets, mosquito repellents or cockroach baitsfrom overseas. The Toxic and Chemical Substances Bureau (TCSB), Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) reminds the public that these household pesticide products are all environmental sanitation agents regulated by the Environmental Agents Control Act. People are allowed to bring a small amount of these products from overseas with their luggage, with the quantity limited to be less than 1 kg, and these products are also for self-use only, not to be advertised and auctioned online. A violator will be fined with an administrative monetary penalty of NT $ 60,000 to NT $ 300,000.
The TCSB, EPA states that environmental agents, such as household pesticide products, all contain chemical substances. To ensure the safety usage by the public, such products must be approved by theTCSB before selling. The public can inquire about legally registered environmental agents through the "Environmental Agents Permits and Pest Control Operators Online Inquiry System" (https://mdc.epa.gov.tw/Publicinfo) established by the TCSB, EPA. When people chose environmental agents, should follow the "4 tips" for safe usage of environmental agents: "One is to ensure the kinds of pests," and the right environmental agents should be chosen for pest control; “Two is to be lawful," ", the permit number approved by the Environmental Protection Administration should appear on the product packaging; "Three is to be effective," the manufacturing date and expiration date on the outer packaging of the product should be confirmed, avoiding expired poor-quality agents; "Four is to read the label", products should be correctly used in accordance with the label (outer packaging of the product) for safety and effectiveness.
