  • Department:Hazard Control Division

As Lunar New Year approaches and households are busy cleaning their surroundings, the Ministry of Environment urges the public to use simple, safe, non-chemical methods for cleaning and pest control; and, when a chemical method is required, only qualified household pesticides should be used.

The Ministry of Environment states that cleaning and maintaining hygiene in the environment is the first step to effectively preventing pests. When using an household pesticide is necessary, consumers must follow the “Four Yes” principles for the safe use of household pesticides to ensure both safety and effectiveness.

  1. Be indicative: Select the active ingredient based on the pratical situation. Select products with clear disinfection and sterilization effects.
  2. Be legal: Ensure the product is certified. Check that the product’s outer packaging displays a permit number, such as “Huan-Bu/Shu-Wei-Jhih-Zih” or “Huan-Bu/Shu-Wei-Shu-Zih”.
  3. Be valid: Verify the product’s validity. Check the manufacturing date and expiration date to ensure the active ingredientis not expired.
  4. Be labeled: Use the product according to the label. Follow the instructions on the outer packaging to ensure the product is used effectively and safely.

Moreover, the Ministry of Environment has established the “Environmental Agent Permit and Pest Control Industry License” inquiry system () to facilitate the citizens to inquire legally registered household pesticides.

As many citizens travel abroad for the Lunar New Year holidays, the Ministry of Environment reminds the public that those who bring small amounts of household pesticides may only use these products for personal use. Selling or advising others to use these products is prohibited, and violators will face fines ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$300,000. The Ministry also urges the public to follow the “Three No” policy, which includes: “No Publication” – do not advise or sell products online without a permit; “No Buying” – do not purchase household pesticides without a verifiable source and a registration number approved by the Ministry; and “No Recommendation” – do not promote or claim the pest control effects of household pesticides in social media or online advertisements.

Since a well-maintained environment is the best form of protection, the Ministry of Environment emphasizes that proper environmental care can significantly reduce the need for household pesticides. The Ministry encourages the public to develop the habit of tidying and cleaning their surroundings daily to prevent the propagation of pests and, as a result, minimize reliance on household pesticides. To welcome a healthy and safe New Year, let’s work together to protect the environment, follow product use regulations, and create a more comfortable living space – ensuring a clean, safe, and pleasant Lunar New Year for all!
