To promote the exchange of domestic and international experience in environmental accident response and enhance the nation's capacity for preventing and responding to toxic chemical disasters and new energy accidents, the Ministry of Environment is holding the "2025 Resilient Taiwan—International Exchange Forum on Resilient Technologies for Environmental Accident Disaster Prevention and Response" from today, the 29th, to the 31st at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Zhongxing Campus. The forum is presided over by Director-General Tsai Meng-yu and includes an awards ceremony honoring outstanding operators and joint defense organizations in the management of toxic and concerned chemical substances. Attracting over 500 experts from the industry, government, academia, and research sectors, along with international specialists, the event showcases Taiwan's advancements in disaster prevention technology and international collaborative achievements.
Continuing the tradition of sharing case studies of toxic chemical disaster responses, the forum features expanded international thematic exchanges. Experts from global entities such as UL Solutions (USA), EMD Electronics (USA), the High-Pressure Gas Safety Institute of Japan (Japan), and the Japan Maritime Disaster Prevention Center are sharing experiences in responding to accidents involving lithium batteries, special gases, liquid ammonia, liquid hydrogen, and case studies of electric vehicle fires. Domestically, experts from National United University, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, and ITRI are discussing response experiences related to energy storage facilities and liquid ammonia accidents, aiming to deepen practical technical interaction. Furthermore, industry leaders like TSMC and CHIMEI Corporation are sharing their practices in the self-management of chemical substances, offering the latest operational and preparedness references for the industry. A "Technology for Disaster Prevention and Relief Theme Exhibition Area" is also set up at the venue, demonstrating innovative applications like AI Big Data, Extended Reality (XR) training modules, robot dogs, detection robots, and smart sensors to illustrate how technology can enhance accident response efficiency and mitigate disaster risks.
Director-General Tsai Meng-yu stated that in facing diversified environmental accident risks, the government is actively promoting cross-ministerial enhancement measures focusing on comprehensive inventory, management, inspection, and drills. He expressed hope that the international forum will facilitate cross-national experience exchange, collectively building a more resilient environmental safety net. He also emphasized that preventing and responding to toxic chemical and new energy accidents requires cross-domain integration and collective effort, affirming that the Ministry of Environment will continue to introduce international experience and emerging technologies to refine the response system and safeguard public health and environmental safety.
