Leading a New Wave of Net-Zero Innovation! The 5th Green Chemistry Application and Innovation Awards Kick Off

  • Department:Comprehensive Planning Division

A landmark event showcasing Taiwan’s top achievements in green chemistry has officially begun. Registration for the 5th Green Chemistry Application and Innovation Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Environment, opened today and will remain open until 6:00 p.m. on August 31, 2026. At a critical moment in Taiwan’s net-zero transition, green chemistry serves not only as a key driver of industrial upgrading, but also as an essential tool for optimizing processes, enhancing safety, and protecting both the environment and public health. Through this call for outstanding contributors, the Ministry of Environment is seeking pioneers who have achieved significant breakthroughs in process waste reduction, low-toxicity and non-toxic alternatives, chemical substitution, chemical management, and disaster prevention and response. Enterprises, academic institutions, and research teams across Taiwan are warmly invited to participate and compete for the highest honor in the nation’s green chemistry field.

The Ministry of Environment noted that the awards have entered their fifth edition, reflecting the continued advancement of green chemistry in Taiwan alongside several institutional innovations. For the first time, the highest honor—the “Master Award”—has been introduced, with one recipient selected from both the group and individual categories. The award recognizes outstanding exemplars with visionary leadership, strong influence, and notable demonstrative impact across industry or academia. In addition, the former “Lifetime Achievement” category under the individual awards has been renamed the “Special Contribution Award” to honor long-term contributors whose efforts have had meaningful and sustained impacts on organizations, industry, society, or professional fields. This change aims to recognize practitioners who serve as role models in advancing green chemistry and sustainability.

The competition is divided into “Group” and “Individual” categories. Group entries include Green Chemistry Education, Green Safety Substitution, Chemical Substance Management, and Disaster Prevention and Response, and Other Categories. Awarded organizations will receive public recognition and an honorary trophy. In the individual category, in addition to the aforementioned categories and the newly established Special Contribution Award, the newly introduced Master Award carries a cash prize of NT$100,000, while other individual award recipients will each receive NT$50,000.

The Ministry of Environment emphasized that receiving this award not only recognizes achievement, but also provides an important platform to expand the impact of green practices. This year’s award-winning cases will be compiled into a “Compendium of Outstanding Achievements” for reference and learning across sectors. Follow-up activities, including site visits and lectures, will also be organized, allowing awardees to share their experiences and encourage broader participation in green chemistry among industry, academia, research institutions, and both public and private sectors. To assist applicants in understanding the registration process and evaluation criteria, the Chemicals Administration under the Ministry will hold a series of briefing sessions across Taiwan.
